Australia facing ‘horror locust plague’
Recent rain and flooding has turned huge tracts of New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia into locust breeding grounds. Locusts have already eaten their way though thousands of hectares of farming land. The Brisbane Times reports that numbers are set to top the multi-billions if a dry winter is followed by a warm and wet spring.

Police survey; are we friendly enough?
Approximately 10,000 drivers stopped at random breath tests on the south side have also been asked whether they think the police is ‘friendly enough’.
As part of a new survey, many pulled over for RBTs are being asked whether they think the officer completing the test is friendly, approachable, fair, polite, courteous and among other things, trustworthy. The questionnaire has up to 100 questions.
Yet neither the Queensland Police Media or Police Minister Neil Robert’s office took responsibility for the survey, which begs the questions; is the survey even legitimate and where on earth did it come from?

QLD Government’s privitisation plan continues
The Port of Brisbane has today been officially put on the market as part of the Government’s controversial 16 billion dollar privatisation plan.
Investors will begin bidding for a 99 year lease on the central hub of QLD’s trade, import and export market.
Treasurer Andrew Frasor says that the sale should be finalised by the end of this year.

Brisbane, most expensive in the world? (tag: zedlines)
The study, conducted by the Anglican Community Services Commission, found that just 3% of properties listed on the weekend of 11-12 April would be viable for people with a regular income. None of the listed properties would be available for students on Youth Allowance or a single parent.
The research suggests that Brisbane housing has become some of the most expensive in the world.

Egality, the activist group behind the project, says that thousands of Britons have already signed up.
Citizens of Afghanistan, Ghana and Bangladesh, regarded the countries most effected by UK policy on war and climate change, will text message their choices to participating British citizens, who will then vote accordingly.
