Refugee Action Collective to meet Wednesday to discuss planned changes to family and child detention

The Refugee Action Collective will hold an organising meeting this Wednesday to discuss their response to the Government’s recently-announced changes to immigration detention.

The Government says it will move several hundred children and families from detention centres into community detention. The people moved will be ordered to live at certain addreses, obey curfews and report to immigration authorities.

The Government also plans to open new detention centres in the Adelaide Hills and near Perth. The Adelaide Hills centre will house family groups, including children. The Refugee Action Collective’s Ian Rintoul says if the Government was serious, it would change the law to make sure children and families are never placed in detention.

The Refugee Action Collective meeting is this Wednesday, October 27, at 6.30pm at the Romero Centre, 20 Dutton St, Dutton Park, close to the 196 and 198 bus routes and the Dutton Park railway station. Click here for a Google Map.
