Female councillors come together at conference today in Gympie in a bid to raise the profile of women in local governmen.

The Gympie Regional Council will host the 2010 Australian Local Government Women’s Association Conference over the next three days.

Gympie councillor Donna Neilson says women are still under-represented in local government.

Ms Nelson states “There are only 30 per cent of councillors [who] are female and less than 5 per cent of chief executive officers are female, so it’s important to raise the profile of women and encourage more women to stand for local government,” she said.
