Australia’s first Indigenous-owned medical centre opens in north Queensland today, to help fill the gap in GP services

The Girudala Community Co-op will open the medical centre in Bowen, south of Townsville, and will operate as a doctors clinic for Indigenous and non-Indigenous patients.

The family medical centre says any profits will be directed back into their community programs.
Clinic director Beverley Cummins says “We do a lot of the health and promotion programs too and we want to work in with closing the gap that the Government has brought out.”
