Queen Street proposed Smoking Ban

Smokers may soon face a $200 on-the-spot fine for lighting up in the Queen Street Mall under a proposed smoking ban, after a council survey found overwhelming support to either ban or restrict smoking in the area.

Twenty-four percent of survey respondents cited health concerns related to passive smoking.

Fifty-four percent of three hundred and thirty seven people surveyed in the mall between May and June said they were in favour of restricting smoking to designated areas.

Twenty-five per cent of those surveyed in the mall support a complete ban
