Wharfy strike protests dangerous conditions

Eight hundred wharfies have stopped work in protest over what they say are dangerous conditions at P and O Stevedoring.

This comes after Stephen Piper was crushed to death by a 2.5 tonne steel beam that fell from a crane.

The Maritime Union of Australia national secretary Paddy Crumlin says that small groups of workers are placed under tremendous pressure and are dying at a high rate.
