Hundreds rally twice in Brisbane last week to support Palestinian freedom

Hundreds of people attended two Brisbane rallies last week protesting Israel's raid on a ship carrying supplies to the Gaza Strip. Israeli soldiers killed at least nine crew members aboard the Mavi Marmara on Monday. The ship was part of a flotilla organised by the Free Gaza Movement, which attempted to defy an Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip.

An organiser of Wednesday's rally, Kathryn Zahran, said the raid showed the Israelis had no regard for human life, and that Israel had treated Palestinians with scant regard and lack of humanity. She urged attendees at the rally to be part of the solution to the problem of Palestinian oppression.

Phil Monsour, who has recently been to Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon, called on attendees at Wednesday's rally to support an international campaign to boycott Israel.

Dr Gary MacLennan, speaking at Friday's rally, said Israel would face no consequences for the killing of the crew members because of the Western media and US President Barack Obama's support.

The Justice for Palestine organisation is meeting at 6.30pm this Wednesday June 9th at the Trades and Labour Council building at 16 Peel St, South Brisbane. The TLC building is a short walk from the Cultural Centre bus station and the South Brisbane train station. Click here for a Google Map.
