$50 Truancy Vouchers for students

A state high school with the worst truancy rate in South-East Queensland has turned to a novel approach to encourage more students to attend.

Mabel park State High School, with a truancy rate of about 23%, has adopted a special gift voucher reward for turning up. After recording their school attendance in ‘passports’, students with more than 95% are eligible for a $50 lottery.

The voucher reward program is funded under the Federal Government’s National Partnership scheme.
