Brisbane Power House Celebrates it’s 10th Anniversary

The Brisbane Power House at New Farm celebrates its 10th anniversary on Monday, since its official opening in 2000.

The Power House was initially built in stages from 1928 to 1940 to power Brisbane’s old tram ways and was sold from the council to the state when the trams gave way to the bus system and the site stood decommissioned and neglected throughout 1971 to 1988.

During the mid-90’s the argument to bulldoze the building was rejected after the cost would amount to about $1 million and the site was later refurbished.

In 2007 the Power House underwent a $3.5 million renovation, which allowed for increased audience capacities, restaurant and bar facilities as well as functions and conference spaces.
