ACTU strengthened protection for workers

Employers have been sent a strong message that they cannot rip off workers by using new awards to cut their pay, following changes to Fair Work regulations announced by the Government.
The ACTU had strongly welcomed today’s announcement that protections for workers will be further strengthened through robust Take-Home Pay Orders that can be applied for in advance on behalf of groups of workers.
ACTU Secretary Jeff Lawrence said the changes are a further step towards making sure no current employee should suffer any reduction to their wages as a result of the establishment of modern awards.

Mr Lawrence said that “These changes provide greater security for workers during the overhaul of the award system.”
“The legislation already made it clear that no current employee should end up worse off. It was never intended to give employers a green light to cut wages.
“These changes further clarify that, and unions will be vigilant in ensuring that wages are maintained or improved.
