More legislation necessary, says Wilderness Society (tag: zedlines)

The recent debacle over the Chinese coal carrier the Sheng Neng 1 shows Australia requires harsher and more comprehensive legislation protecting our marine environment, says the Wilderness Society.

The Wilderness Society are pressuring Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to ensure no more oil spills occur, as because of the chemical compound of the substance it can be dispersed but never completely cleaned up.

Two crew members of the Sheng Neng 1 are currently under arrest, with the ship facing a fine upwards of $200, 000.
