Intervention not progressing to schedule (tag: zedlines)

A welfare program designed to restore ‘social norms’ in Cape York indigenous communities is not progressing to schedule, a Senate inquiry has been told.

He Family Responsibilities Commission, established nearly two years ago, is designed to address social issues by selectively denying welfare payments. But a spokesperson from the Commission told the senate inquiry that it would not meet it’s objectives in the time alloted.

But Noel Pearson, the director of the Cape York Institute, says that the program is more successful according other criteria, such as school attendance.
