Australian Lawyers Alliance says Rudd Refugee Decision Reprehensible

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's decision to freeze legal processes in relation to asylum seekers from Sri Lanka and Afganistan is reprehensible, the Australian Lawyers' Alliance said on Friday,

Greg Barns, director of the Alliance, says the decision is "offensive to Australia's rule of law", and that  “It is a fundamental tenet of the Australian judicial system that our laws apply irrespective of race or nationality".

Mr. Barns also said It would be no surprise if the government's decision were challenged, saying it was "offensive to our principles of administrative law such as fairness and natural justice.”
