Sudanese Election Tensions

Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir insists that the forthcoming election will free and fair, with the intention of the Sudan election to be the first multi-party polls since 1986.

Several major opposition parties have decided to boycott the polls protesting against alleged rigging, which leaves only minor opposition parties to contest the election in North and South Sudan.

Sudanese activists believe these withdrawals damage the credibility of the election and the international community is pushing for the polls, with the priority of possible southern independence as the main agenda.
