Kyrgyzstan’s opposition has taken overthrown the government in riots protesting corruption and the detention of opposition leaders on Tuesday night.
At last 17 people were killed and 142 wounded in riots that set fire to many government buildings and a television station. A minister was among the killed and another was taken hostage. Riot police responded with teargas and stun grenades.
The opposition says that it has since set up a ‘people’s government’.
