Guinea-Bissau Prime Minister Held Captive By Soldiers

The Guinea-Bissau Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Junior was arrested late yesterday evening by soldiers who invaded his residence.

Along with the Prime Minister, 40 military officers and the head of Guinea-Bissau’s armed forces were detained and held at an army base.

Currently the Prime Minister is being held at his home with neighbouring streets being controlled by the soldiers who arrested him.

The deputy army chief spoke out on state television furious about the hundreds of people showing support for the Prime Minister, this prompted him to make threats against his life if supporters continued to rally in the streets.
