Premier Ana Bligh has floated a plan to make Townsville the vice-capital of Queensland, the Courier Mail reports.
The premier asked 250 delegates at a growth management summit in Brisbane whether or not Townsville should be a second capital city, rivaling what she sees as Brisbane’s economic, cultural and social opportunities.
She also suggested moving new immigrants to regional parts of Queensland, rather than Brisbane and the South-Eastern corner.
