The Archbishop of New York, Timothy Dolan, has likened Pope Benedict to Jesus, saying he is facing some of the same accusations, reports the Associated Press. Nowhere in the four Gospels accepted by most Christian Churches is Jesus accused of covering up child sex abuse. The Pope faces accusations of doing that, in relation to up to 200 deaf children allegedly abused by a Wisconsin priest, although the Vatican says it is not responsible as the alleged crimes had already been reported to police before they were reported to higher Church authorities. The pope was also Archbishop of Munich when a priest already undergoing therapy for abusing children was allowed to return to pastoral duties, and abused children again. A member of the archbishop’s bureaucracy at the time has taken the blame for that and said the Pope did not know.
