Shiver me Timbers

A decorative timber awning in Brisbane city has been removed after one piece of wood broke off and fell a number of storeys down onto the pavement.

No one was hurt by the incident, but the ten-year old wooden feature above popular meeting place at the junction of the Queen St Mall and Albert St has now been taken down.

The feature, designed to protect shoppers from the sun, had become more of a hazard after the deterioration of the timber.
