Revelry and raunchiness

A rare diary recording debauchery and sin on an eighteenth-century emigration ship from Great Britain has finally come back to Australia.

The Private Journal of a Voyage to Australia 1838-39 was a diary kept by James Bell on his passage to Adelaide on ship The Planter.

The book, which apparently contains shocking stories of revelry and raunchiness, was bought by the State library of Adelaide at auction in London.
