A major investigation into racism within the Victorian Police force is expected to result in disciplinary action against serving Victorian Police officers in the coming weeks.
The Office of Police Integrity director Michael Strong said "I do not suggest that the level of
racism in police ranks is any greater than it is in the community generally, but it undoubtedly
exists and must be treated as a systemic problem."
The emergence of the investigation surfaced days after a report claimed police had taunted
African youths in Melbourne and that police violence against African youths in Flemington were
Tamar Hopkins, principal solicitor at the Flemington and Kensington Legal said she
has filed 23 complaints on behalf of African youths since 2006 but none had been substantiated
