Golden Circle Makes Large Can Donations in Response to ACCC Concerns

Formerly Australian owned company Golden Circle will donate over 800, 000 cans of fruit and vegetables to Australian welfare agencies that follows concerns from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

The large donation was in response to concerns raised by the ACCC about misleading country ownership claims.

Heinz, which is owned by the US company H.J. Heinz Company, acquired Golden Circle in December 2008, although Golden Circle continued to label some of its products as “Proudly Australian Owned” until January this year.

In response to the ACCC’s requirements Heinz must cease the supply of Golden Circle branded products with Australian owned representations, provide correct signage next to Golden Circle products on supermarket shelves and publish corrective advertisements in major newspapers throughout Australia.
