Operation Walzing Matilda concluded

Operation Walzing Matilda, the whaling interdiction efforts by the organisation Sea Shephard against the Japanese whaling fleet in the Southern Ocean, is over for another year.

During the three week operation, one Sea Shephard vessel was sunk and a sailor taken prisoner, along with the usual water-cannon battles and media stunts.

Sea Shephard says that they cost the Japanese millions of dollars, and that the whole operation was remarkably successful. Peter Bethune, the Japanese prisoner, will probably face charges of piracy in Japan in the coming weeks.
