Constitution states first Queenslanders

Passages in Queensland’s constitution were yesterday amended to acknowledge Indigenous people as the first Queenslanders.

Indigenous Social Justice Commissioner Mick Gooda says the amendment was an important step towards reconciliation.

Queensland joins Victoria as the only Australian states to recognise the position of Indigenous Australians in their constitutions.
