Teachers to sit tests

Queensland teaching graduates from next year onwards will be required to sit literacy and numeracy tests.

In order to work, teachers must register with the Queensland College of Teachers, which from next year will have an entry exam.

The literacy, numeracy and science tests will only be applicable to early childhood and primary teachers.

State parliament has passed legislation allowing the tests but recognise that teaching graduates will have to foot the bill of the exam.
