Broome Native Title Win

The West Australian government will today sign a Native Title agreement with Broome Aborigines, the Australian reports.

Known as the Rubibi claim, and spanning some 5300 square kilometers, the traditional owners have been engaged in legal battle over the land since 1994.

The state government had decided not to appeal the claim to the High Court, after twice being defeated in the Federal Court.

The Yawuru community will receive millions of dollars in both monetary compensation and land.
