New Institute to Reasearch Indigenous Health Launcing Today

A new research institute, addressing Indigenous health, will be launched in Canberra tonight in an effort to close the life expectancy gap between Indigenous and other Australians.

The Lowitja Institute- Australias Institute for Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Health, will be led by Indigenous Australians, and will focus on the systemic causes of health issues, as well as medicine and technology.

Mr Alastair Harris, Communications Manager of the Co-Operative Research Centre for Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders says the institute has been named after Indigenous elder and leader, Dr Lowitja O’Donohue.
