Queensland regional council land use agreement

Queensland regional councils have finalised a land use agreement with local Indigenous people which aims to preserve their cultural heritage.

The Indigenous land use agreement means that Isaac, Whitsunday and Charters Towers regional councils have a relationship with regular meetings and sharing of information .

This involves consultation between councils and the Jangga People before new infrastructure projects are built on traditional country.

Isaac Mayor Cedric Marshall says the agreement will help to balance new infrastructure developments and the need to preserve cultural areas.
