Injured Turtles

Turtles have sustained serious injuries after being caught in ghost nets off Cape York in North Queensland.

James Cook University researcher Jenny Gilbert says nets washed up from cyclones Olga and Neville at Napranum resulted in 42 turtles being cut free.

Indigenous rangers established a makeshift rehabilitation center that is caring for a record 32 turtles.

Injuries sustained to the turtles include cuts to their flippers down to the bone and injuries to their head and jaws.
