Queen st becomes more pedestrian friendly

A new city council plan is to redevelop the road section of Queen St in the city, widening the footpaths and making the whole street more pedestrian friendly.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman says construction will begin next month, introducing a subtropical landscape theme with more trees, seating and pedestrian areas.

The opposition and motorists are concerned about the impact the narrowing of the street will have on inner-city traffic, while a transport researcher at UQ is asking why the street isn’t completely closed to motor vehicles.
