Spray paint art on legal or commissioned areas around the city has been removed by graffiti clean-up crews unaware of the legality of the work, Ciy News reported. Councillor Geraldine Knapp says there seems to be a mistake with some of the art that has been removed. She does believe however that it IS quick removal that acts as more of deterrent to illegal artwork than “free walls”. Artist Oliver Walker of Monty’s Auto Colour and councillors Fiona King, Andrew Wines and Norm Wyndham support legal aerosol murals to potentially curb illegal graffiti in other city areas. The Health, Safety and Amenity Local Law is due to come into action soon and allows council to fine people up to $5000 if they refuse to clean off graffiti on their property.
