Racial Discrimination Act to be reinstated and conflicted, already

A Northern Territory legal group has told a Senate Committee that proposed welfare quarantining in the NT may conflict with the Racial Discrimination Act.

The Federal Government suspended the Racial Discrimination Act in order to target indigenous people as part of the federal intervention in NT, but are now considering reinstating the Act. They then intend to apply welfare quarantining to everyone receiving benefits in the Territory, rather than just indigenous communities.

But North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency says the Act will still be conflicted as the indigenous community will be disproportionately affected.
