E. coli found in Bowen town water

For the second time in recent years residents of the North Queensland town of Bowen are being encouraged to avoid town water, the ABC reported.

The most recent routine tests have indicated that there is unusually high levels of E. coli and potentially other harmful bacteria may in the water.

Queensland Health is working with the Whitsunday Regional Council to find the cause.

Residents are advised to boil the tap water prior to consumption.
