Springborg Against Same Sex Surrogacy

Queensland Deputy opposition leader, Lawrence Springborg, says the opposition will not support the inclusion of same sex couples or single parents in new surrogacy laws.

Mr Springborg says the idea is uncalled for by the community, yet the Queensland Association for Healthy Communities is pleading with members of parliament to see reason, saying the only foundation a family must have is a loving and caring environment, not heterosexual parentage.

The debate has already been foreseen by QAHC general manager, Paul Martin.

“In the debate we are likely to hear that children must have a male and female influence – as though same-sex couples don’t have male and female family members, friends and care networks,” he says.

“They will say that only married couples should be able to raise children – yet they won’t let same-sex couples marry.”

“They will say that children raised by same-sex parents will experience stigma and discrimination as they grow up – yet they are the ones doing the stigmatising and discriminating,” Mr Martin says.

Despite this plea from the community, Lawrence Springborg believes that the Government is impressing ‘loopy’ left-wing ideals on the broader community.
