Preparation for Coal Boom

The Barcaldine regional council has requested funds to build an infrastructure to cope with an expected population boom in the central-west Queensland town of Alpha.

The request comes in the wake of coal magnate Clive Palmer’s signing of a twenty year deal with China Power International last Friday, which is expected to create thousands of jobs in the Queensland area.

Councillor Rob Chandler has said Alpha does not have a reliable water source and is also in need of improvement to necessities such as hospitals, education and emergency services.
