Too many painkillers

Young people are taking copious amounts of over-the-counter painkillers such as Nurofen Plus to get a codeine high, says RBH Director of addictive psychology Doctor Mark Daglish.

Chemists say it is common practice for young people to take up to forty tablets a day with coffee and alcohol, ignoring the warning signs that overdosing could burn holes in their stomachs, resulting in colostomy bags.

The Gold Coast Drug Council says the easy access and relative cheapness of the drug have made it the emerging trend of the Gold Coast drug scene.
