Children born around this time of the year are more likely to become professional athletes, according to a recent study at QUT.
Dr Adrian Barnett from the Institute of health and biomedical innovation has published results linking birth dates with achievement in sport.
Of professional AFL players, 33 percent more were born in January and 25 per cent less were born in December.
Dr Barnett says because children are that little bit older and bigger than their classmates, their chances are greater in sport. He suggests sporting codes in Australia change their team entry date from January 1 to July 1.
