World Cancer Day today, Queensland Cancer Council joins International Union Against Cancer’s global campaign

In recognition of World Cancer Day today, the Queensland Cancer Council has joined the International Union Against Cancer’s global campaign.

The campaign is backed by a new scientific report ‘Protection against cancer causing infections’ which focuses on nine infections that can lead to cancer.

Professor David Hill, UICC President says around 20 per cent of cases can be attributed to viral and bacterial infections that either directly cause or increase the risk of cancer.

Strategies such as vaccinations and by adopting lifestyle changes can prevent cancer causing infections, Professor Hill says.
