Support Services for Alice Springs Town Camps

The Northern Territory, with the aid of the Federal government, is set to implement heavy support services within the district of the Alice Springs town camps, the Australian has reported.

The support services will initiate intervention for alcohol abuse and early childhood issues in Indigenous families as well as prison inmates, who currently receive very little treatment for alcoholism.

Federal Indigenous Affairs Minister, Jenny Macklin, said overcrowding combined with alcohol abuse has lead to an increase in violence in the district, which will hopefully be combated with the new Safe and Sober rehabilitation program.
