Appeal for Animals in Haiti Earthquake

Animal welfare groups have appealed to the public to help aid the animals injured during the earthquake in Haiti in last week.

Humanitarian relief agencies have been working to assist people in desperate need of food, water and medical care but the international fund for animal welfare said animals need help too.

Haiti has approximately five million head of livestock, a large stray dog population, native wildlife and domestic companions.

The funds priority has been treating critically injured animals and vaccinating to prevent diseases such as rabies spreading to humans.
