Scanner trials could see Australia on board

Australia may soon join the rush of countries implementing full body scanners at airports, with the Federal government awaiting results from trials at a number of Australian airports.

Australia’s Privacy Commissioner Karen Curtis says scanned images, which see through passengers’ clothing, will not be recorded and are unlikely to be considered personal information under the Privacy Act.

A number of European nations have committed to the roll-out of scanners, including the UK where child advocacy groups have claimed that the security measure will breach child porn laws.
