Japanese embassy refuses blame

The Japanese embassy maintains that details surrounding the sinking of World War Two hospital ship The Centaur remain “murky”, after calls for an apology from the Japanese government.

The ship was torpedoed in 1943, killing most of the crew onboard, and was discovered again last month by deep-sea sonar.

A spokesman for the Japanese embassy says that there is no conclusive proof Japanese troops sank the ship, and they consider the matter to be “up in the air”.
