Senate Inquiry into Same Sex Unions

The Rudd government has announced an inquiry into same sex marriage by the Senate, following the introduction of the Marriage Equity Amendment Bill in 2009.

If passed, the bill would allow equal rights for same sex unions in Australia, as well as reconizing those entered into abroad.

The International Lesbian and Gay Association has supported the bill, saying they will use the inquiry as a means of drawing attention to so called “homophobic” laws in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
