Leader of the Opposition Tony Abbott has released a New Year’s message on Youtube. The video is a discussion on Mr Abbott’s expectations for 2010.
“It’s certainly gonna be a big year in politics. We’ve got a budget coming up, where Labour’s debt and deficit will finally start to impact on Australian family budgets.”
Mr Abbott, who took control of the Liberal party from Malcolm Turnbull in December last year, also criticises the controversial Emissions Trading Scheme.
“The emissions trading scheme is not an environment policy, it’s a tax policy.”
The Liberal website features a challenge to Kevin Rudd to an open debate on the topic.
Also featured on the website, though not mentioned in the video, is Mr Abbott’s stance that certain asylum seekers should be turned away from borders by the Australian Navy, whichi would be in breach of international law.
