Increase Indigenous Prison Rate

New Research by the Australian Bureau of statistics has revealed the rate of Indigenous imprisonment is fourteen times higher than for non-Indigenous prisoners.

Kitty Carra, President of ANTAR is concerned about this rate of imprisonment and says programs need to be put in place for at risk groups.

Carra says prisons are not rehabilitation programs, they’re not hospitals, they’re not anger management programs, they’re prisons. Other issues need to be dealt with in a health framework not within a justice framework. With at risk groups a lot of work needs to be done.
